2021 - now
My focus has gone through a shift recently. While living close to Chicago for the better part of two years, I noticed a busyness that encroached on me. My work fell victim to this encroachment.
"Take the photo then move on"
"Don't think just shoot"
I never gave myself enough time to really sit and understand the happenings around me. Short attention spans and surface-level anecdotes rightfully summarized some of my work during that time. My focus was on capturing the first "captivating" thing that crossed my camera, and you better hope there was a person in the final image or I would quickly misplace my interest.
the shift
The shift occurred in June this year when I accepted a job in a small town in Ohio which relocated me and my new wife. Surrounded by corn fields and livestock the busyness that took shelter in myself was quickly served eviction papers.
My creative process started to move like the molasses that was being produced nearby. This was what my creative side needed.
I was told my recent work, "made the ordinary feel personal." Anyone can come across a moment, snap a few photos, then leave. However, the individual who captures the connection to that moment creates something worth having a viewer.
I desire to be that individual.
